WORK TRUCKS

My latest "work truck" project. It's a '40 1/2 ton panel.

Last weekend we yanked the locked up flatty and transmission out of it, as well as the banjo rear. Hung some Posies parallel leaves and a Granada 8" underneath it. Learned that the standard 58" wide Granada rear end is about 2" too narrow for the panel, while it is the PERFECT choice for a '40 passenger car or pickup. I'm going to wind up running some 1.25" wheel adapters and run a Chevy bolt pattern on the back with some 15x7 US Mag Indy wheels that I have, and order up a pair of 15x5's for the front. I swung a deal to pick up some "take off" parts from a '40 convert that is getting a Mustang II put under the front of it, and the discs have Chevy bolt pattern up front.

The front appears to be a '41 6 cylinder deeper crossmember so I am hoping that I can roll a little more arch out of the Posies front spring that is part of the "take off" deal. I've got a Sid's dropped axle for the front, too.

The "current plan" is to run my '40 flathead that I pulled out of the stake truck, with a Saginaw 3 line 4 speed behind that, feeding power to a 3.0 rear gear to turn some 235/75r15's. Running the transmission gear ratios through the calculator on Randy's Ring & Pinion, it should give me workable range of RPMs through each gear and leave me a little over 2400 at 70mph.

I'm gonna blow my build budget on getting it running and driving, so it'll look ROUGH for a while, or until someone else decides they want it more than I do.

Looks like a fun project. Keep us posted.
