1958 Texas State Championship at Caddo Mills. This is the Chevy-powered ‘32 roadster belonging to John Mulkey of Waxahachie. It had a hot Chevy engine and was a regular trophy winner in the B/SR class at Caddo. With a stock engine and street tires on the rear, however, it wound up as the streetable hot rod being driven by the leading character in the “B” movie classic “The Giant Gila Monster” that was released in 1959 (filmed at the producer’s own 200-acre ranch, Cielo, on the west side of Lake Dallas, near Lewisville). Disclaimer: There were no 1932 Ford roadsters harmed in the making of this movie (the car’s demise in the end used a model car and some trick photography.)
