Hello,
We all know the well documented Don Garlits’ history.  This is our recollection of what we saw during the time period from 59-60.  (Including the world famous race against Art Chrisman at the 59 Riverside Raceway drag meet. Look at the starting line difference and the unfair start. Controversy then and now) I was able to get near the start line to film this East vs West race between the top racers of this time period.

Hello,
Here is the rest of the compilation of Don Garlits’ travels through So Cal during 59-60.  (Riverside, Bakersfield and Lions dragstrips.)  We were lucky enough to be there when he traveled all the way across the USA to race the best of the west coast racers. At the time, it was impressive to see someone other than the fast local racers making smoking runs down the strip.   In Bakersfield 1960, Art Malone drove the FED. Controversy or not, these big time meets were the best in the west during these early times.  To a teenage race car aficionado, it was good time to see a little bit of history in the making.
