Aussie Roadster. Check the sill panel between the running board and the body. That is one difference between Aussie and USA Roadsters. There are many more.

'34 at the Indy 500. Wish I knew the story on the paint, it has a rough appearance kinda like a 'flake job before the clear was applied. The chrome and stainless looks OK, but oddly even the running boards and tire side walls were painted. '69 Camaro Pace Car? Nah, I'd rather have this.
I know the basement floor is down there because it's holding everything up. I just can't see it anymore.

Hey Beppie,

That last photo is one that I shot of Dickie Carroll's '34 roadster, probably around 2002, or so.  Can't rightly remember.

After nearly 30 years as a hiboy, Dickie decided it was time for a change, so he put the fenders back on the roadster.

The wider B pillar shows between the doors and also, is the frame exposed or did they add a filler panel below the body? Was the bottom edge of the body different because of the wooden subrails used in the Australian open cars?

That is correct Fordors. There is an infill panel between the bottom of the doors and the running boards. The bottom of the doors are also different because of that infill panel as the doors do not go down to the sill line at the running board like a USA Tourer. The door hinges are also different. The floor is wood apart from the floor under the rear seat which is steel like the USA cars. Fenders, grille, hood, bumpers, windshield posts, windshield and the gas tank are all the same although 1933 bumpers were used on 1934 models. Australia never got 1934 bumpers.

I stored an aussie 34 for a friend and the wood pallet the body shipped on could not be cut with a skill saw it was so hard.Had to use a chain saw.I wonder if they used to same wood in the floor and inner doors.

I'm unsure if the Aussie made bodies came on hardwood pallets, but I do know how hard Aussie hardwoods are. I recently bought some hardwood firewood and my axe wont touch it, just bounces off. I do know that early Fords imported into New Zealand from Canada came in knocked down form in boxed crates and the wood was used for floorboards etc.

I LOVE the Rootlieb car. I have the Hot Rod article on it, I should dig it up and scan it. it is an INTERESTING read. Theres also a photo of it at Oakland in a lighter colour with Fiesta caps on it, it really looks good in the lighter colour.
