Bug-In 40 Weekend
« on: May 18, 2015, 08:55:29 AM »
Geez, what a weekend of VW overindulgence!  The fun began last Wednesday with a big BBQ at DKP buddy Steve Beecher's house in Huntington Beach.
Next up, a VW Cruise Night in downtown Garden Grove followed by Saturday's DKP 50 year club reunion at Yorba Park in Yorba Linda.  Bug-In 40 was at
Fontana Raceway yesterday; I need a week-long nap! :P

Beecher's gigs are always fun and this one was no different.  Steve is a VW guy to the core and builds some nice transmissions (along with lots of other stuff)
in his ever-expanding (five car) garage.  The '37 Lincoln belongs to long-time club member Gregg Bunch; what a car!

On to Garden Grove.  Downtown Garden Grove Old Town is only two blocks long but is a nice venue for car shows with some cool restaurants to duck into
for eats and DRINKS.  Don't be fooled into thinking those three old guys in the band in front of the Mexican restaurant are playing Mariachi music either...
they really are into surf music and rocked the house big-time! 8)

On to Saturday and the DKP Reunion at Yorba Park.  Hard to believe we celebrated a fifty year milestone.  What began as a group of college kids with VW's
in 1965 morphed into quite a car club that is in it's third incarnation today and is known world-wide for clean, FAST cars.  We last celebrated as a club back
in 1990 on our twenty-fifth birthday so Saturday was an emotional time that passed by way to quickly....

Lastly, Bug-In 40 was largely anti-climatic yesterday.  Luckily, we had left-over hot dogs and burgers from the reunion! :D

Interesting that you had a photo of one of the trophies that I made for the Bug-In using cut down 48 Webers . I have several posters from the early Bug-In's as I was one of the judges back then . Thanks for the memories .

Great coverage as your usual, Red!  I really like the louvered deck lid in the 2nd post, pic #4.  And who, dare tell, is featured in the display from post 6 pic #6  ;)
