 Every shop I've gone in is welding on fresh clean metal.

I think its a HAMB thing, something about preserving the "patina" ::). Cause, you know, all the REAL hot rods in the fifties were rusty and unpainted... ::) They should see the "patina" I had in the floorpans of my chevy II ::). "patina" you could put your fist through... ;D

Ok here is another wild and wonderful example.........

you have to look close to see the reinforced plywood support that is added for extra pulling strength.  Probably to get through those mountains in the background :)  and the old fence post for vertical support.
