The big 16" Firestones are one of my favorite high boy tires, I  love the look on the Prufer and Vinther Hot Rods.  I have been going through my Andy Southard books and old Hot Rod and Car Crafts to see when these were first starting to be used on a hot rod?   I recall seeing a pair on the really bitchin 2 tone metal flake gold Model A pickup but I can not find the issue to verify the year of the issue. I have not found much reference on those tires until post 70's.  I was under the impression these started to be used in the 60's, but most of the photos I found of the 60's hot rods had the low profile Indy style tires, (like my older brothers used back then)  I appreciate any input/opinions for those of you that are in the know.
Thanks!

I'm guessing this is the truck you were looking for? Bill Franks Model A PU? M&H pie crusts, it was in a Hot Rod annual pictorial that came out in '69, but I think the actual photos may have been shot before that? I think I have an issue of Hot Rod with the same car in it, I will see if I can find it.

Yes, that is the pickup I was referring to. After the wheels were polished, the pie crust slicks were replaced with the  Firestones, but these might not be the 16 x 14's I had originally asked about.  I have only seen photos of this hot rod, and I do not know what year this version was done but I sure like it!.  So it sounds like the 16 x 14  tires were not used until the 70's, possibly 1969 at the earliest?.  Thank you for the responses.

I'll add these here, for what they are worth.
First pic is AJ Foyt, Oct. '67, clearly NOT even a 16x13, more like 16x9? or possibly 10?

Unser 1969. Hard to judge, but maybe 16x13?

Sacramento 1969, again, 16x13?

Bobby Unser 1970 Sacramento, again looks like a 16x13?

Draw your own conclusions.

HemiDeuce and I know a guy that races a early seventies vintage midget that's powered by a ford Z-tec with cut up hilborns that started life as a 2300 pinto piece. Wild little car. I have posted pics of his yellow, early hemi powered Stude on here a few times.
