Not a cookie cutter hot rod.....the non-cookie cutter paint job actually is quite interesting to me. British racing green cars with an oxblood interior look quite elegant to me......this just takes things one step further.

Here are a few pics of a '29 on deuce rails that I started last October as a replacement for the traded away track roadster pickup.  Stretched the wheelbase to 110, lengthening the doors and rear quarters to accommodate my big self.  It will have a 406 long rod SBC, TKO500 and a narrowed 9", drums  all around, cross springs, 35/36 rear bones on a ball pivot, slightly split front bones, dropped axle. Sunk the floor two inches. It's all a work in progress

Pickup

This is in no way intended as a slam, because I think this car is absolutely perfect in every way. I was immediately struck by how the front suspension, the stance and the length of the pickup bed made me think how a Jim Nelson/Dode Martin Dragmaster T would look if it grew up to be a V8.
I know the basement floor is down there because it's holding everything up. I just can't see it anymore.

Yup! And as I mentioned on another thread, that car is still perfectly preserved as you rode in it, and parked in his basement shop. I wish I had a camera when I was there!

Realistically, I can understand why he might be reluctant to drive it, it still has the same tires on it for one thing. He has a BUNCH of cars, several of which he drives the hell out of, but the T really is a time capsule. You really gotta see it in its current setting, its jaw dropping, just sitting there in the basement shop under the florescent lights, with a light coating of dust on it. Laying eyes on it for the first time, you kind of get the idea how Howard Carter must have felt when he first knocked the hole in the wall of Tutenkamens tomb. ;D Its a bit surreal, you kind of feel like it would be wrong to even disturb the dust on it!

Theres three black full fendered '28/'29 roadster pick-ups that were all from that late fifties/early sixties time frame, and are all kinda similar to each other, but each is different from the others in its own way, Dave Dias, Dave Marascos, and Ray Silvas. Silvas has always been my favorite, I love the chopped '32 grill shell with the custom insert and the chrome louvers. It got a sbc and skylark wires later, I really liked it with the chromies.

Fairly well known Vancouver Island car there. When I was a kid, I always wanted to be in So-Cal, in some ways I failed to really appreciate the really high caliber of local BC cars. There were a LOT of very nice cars here, I think most BC hot rod guys had that same So-Cal inferiority complex, so they built REALLY nice stuff.

Dennis Varni ?  He brought his roadster to the Lone Star Roundup a couple of years ago.  Other than myself I never saw anyone take a close look at it.  To me ,'tradition' includes history.  It was the most famous hot rod at the show.

And to some other guys, tradition excludes history, especially when it contradicts their version of it, which is pretty much all the time. Rant over. ;D

And even though his cars are show quality he doesn't just drive 'em he's willing to thrash them. Who remembers the R&C tire test article?

I remember it at an indoor show in Vancouver parked in a corner with no ropes or signage, and I spent hours studying it, while many people walked right by, hardly glancing at it. Probably the most exotic hot rod at the show. ::)

When I first started rounding up 270hp 283 and C1 Corvette parts, the original plan was to build a Ray Silva inspired '28/29 RPU around it, with a dose of Ala-Kart. But then the T-bucket came along, and I decided I needed something with more seats, and I started hunting for T-Tudor parts. I still think Silva's truck is my favorite, even more than the Marasco/Sharp truck.

Another one I REALLY like, the Dick McCoy car that was on the cover of Car Craft with the red T PU. Really like the pale yellow and the belly burners.

I wonder if he found a radiator that worked for his combination, rather than have the stock one reworked, and then he used the filler panels. I remember when guys were using early Mustang radiators in A’s and Deuces because they fit pretty good.

There are several subtle differences between the pic I posted, and the ones Beppie posted, F1 caps vs high crown beanies, Moto-Meter vs no Moto-Meter, body colour vs chrome headlights, horn on the headlight bar, the grill shell, and it looks like the front end is lower in my pic?

I think your pic must be a newer version.  Also note the louvered hood, A front bumper, and chrome door hinges.   Like most hot rods built back then, the owner always strove to improve looks &/or performance.

I was thinking the same thing, that my pic was the more recent. I didn't notice the painted hinges in Beppies pics, good catch.
