Nothing screams hot rod more than a belly tank.

Thanks for igniting yet another "some-day" hot rod project.
Why is it that when you think you've got it sorted .....  something else pops up???

Here's some left over parts from a p-38 tank

this is all I knew of it.. and was excited to just have this part... then I recieved some photos, and now.... its got me all messd up wanting a "real" p-38 tank again...

theres some patterns left over and a new section for the nose that was never attached

this is the engine area buck

and the nose with its patterns

so I'm about 10% on my way! haha

You'll get there. Stumbling over those left overs and old parts must have been a rush.

Anyone have any thoughts on the Lodes tank?
it appears to be smaller.... but I think it may be an illusion

though I'm not seeing the row of buldges along the side... and the flange doesnt have the 2nd layer around it...
obviously the upper rear half is modified drastically

some more photos

BITD when Hot Rod used to do a multi-page write up on Bonneville the Markley belly tank was one of my favorites. I think it was because of the combination they ran, it was a Plymouth block with Dodge hemi heads. I'm sure they came up with an engine of small cubic inches to fit a particular class but the odd deck height combined with the hemi heads was one the speed equipment manufacturers hadn't dealt with. No problem for the Markley's, they made a blower manifold out of steel.
I know the basement floor is down there because it's holding everything up. I just can't see it anymore.

Yes, those are great pics !  I recognize the Bob Rufi tank- the one with 'Chevrolet' on the side.  It's been called the first belly tank.
