ANYBODY KNOW IF THIS RAN WELL ?

No, it did not. The Iron Mistress was the brain child of Bill Coburn and Neil Leffler. They used the fuel hemis out of each of their successful coupes, two complete quick change rear ends, and a frame heavy enough to support a locomotive. In spite of both of them giving their best effort to drive it, the twin engine Messerschmidt was a complete embarrassment.

Hello,
Tommy Ivo was very popular in the So Cal circuit.  We saw most of his creations at Lions from 58-60.  The transformation was pretty neat to follow.  His cars were always painted red and were quite colorful.  The twin was a show car that ran fast and won a lot of rounds.  Most of the movies i was able to take back then was from Lions Dragstrip,(even the sneaky below the tower shots) but we did venture up to Bakersfield to watch him pull a small wheelie at the start line at a Smokers Meet in 1960.

I don't know anything about it, but the front car is from WA state, and probably raced at Mission before my time. Renton is close to Seattle, and the number starting with a 6 confirms it is a Div. 6 car. Wonder if HemiDeuce knows anything about this car.

Noel Black died in the car but it was at Bonneville, not on the strip. It was built as a full bodied Streamliner but tested at the drags, or maybe even entered into T/F on occasion. I’d say being entered was doubtful, it had to be a heavy brute since weight is not a concern at Bonneville, in fact it’s a plus.
I know the basement floor is down there because it's holding everything up. I just can't see it anymore.

IIRC, tested only. Its easy to Monday Morning quarterback, but from what little I know about Bonneville/LSR racing, and I am basing this mostly on the accounts I have read from guys when cars start to get out of shape at high speeds, deliberately building a car with a really high polar moment of inertia seems to be a VERY bad idea, 4 wheel drive or not.

You are right about Jim Bucher George. He beat us in a rain delayed T/F final in Englishtown 1975 I think. If I remember correctly that was the last N.H.R.A Chevy T/F winner. He was usually right in the thick of things with his Chevy in a Hemi dominated world.  Jim

that 1970-75ish time was a very exciting era in Fuel racing. The development of successful RE cars, wheelpants coming (and going) Fuel racers were still real "hot rod" little guys, it hadn't become the corporate circus it did in later years, there was a lot going on, Donovans ect.
