Just as an aside, if you are ever in Kansas City, Mo. make sure to go to the Word War I Museum, very interesting.

Mick

If you like cool museums, General Patton's tank museum on the Arizona/California state line has some really neat stuff too..

I like the looks of both I owned a 77 in 78/79 I bought it with the V8 conversion kit in the hatch. Six months later I received my orders to go to Japan so I sold it just like I bought it. Joe

Remember the black square nose that was in Car Craft about 15 years ago with the Cragars and Camaro taillights? DAMN that looked GOOD.

VERY nice, I like that! Heres the one from Car Craft. And the '68 Mopar side marker lights with a bumble bee stripe! What a cool, subtle, understated little hot rod this was. Man I liked this.

Maybe I should find a square nose and swap the drivetrain from my S10 in...

Found this interesting story on Lee Oldfield from the Old Motor Magazine. Cool picture too.  Joe

Lee Oldfield is seen in this press photo with a very forward thinking car that he built for the 1937 Indianapolis 500. Oldfield had his own race car driving career twenty-five years earlier and drove in many big races during the years 1910-1912. We also found reference to him to being in the airplane engine business in the Feb. 1, 1917, The Automobile, which can be seen at the bottom of the post.

This Marmon V-16 powered rear wheel drive car, appeared to have been fashioned after the Auto-Union and Mercedes cars that were dominate in Europe at the time. The car featured four-wheel independent suspension, inboard brakes and also appears to have been supercharged. It was slated to be driven by Joel Thorne, but that did not materialize and Oldfield decided to try it himself.

This photo is dated April 12, 1937, only a month and a half before the race and it appears to be quite unfinished. It was reported in the press that Oldfield was not able to qualify it for the race due to its complexity.

The Experimental model just to its right is quite interesting and also appears to feature the same basic design as the larger car and it appears to carry a belt driven supercharger. Interestingly quite a gem is parked in the background of the photo, it appears to be a P3 Alfa Romeo racing car. If any of our readers can add anything to the story we would appreciate your input.
