It's actually real close to where I live.  The road is only a mile or two long and runs through open pasture before ending at the entrance to the old Aerojet munitions plant.... an 800 acre toxic wasteland that is slowly being cleaned up by the federal government.  There are still three ancient cattle crossings along the way and it's not unusual to round a corner to find a herd in the middle of the road!   :o

Always more fun cruising around with club bros...  Here, a club meeting at the local Bob's in Anaheim followed by a visit to Proformance and then
a trip to Norwalk to check out Moon Speed Equipment.  Note to self:  we really need to do more of this sort of stuff!

I don't think so... the place is more like a museum and trinket outlet. :(

Took a drive over to Corona yesterday to visit fellow DKP member Scott Pescuma.  Scott's a hands-on car builder who's not afraid to tackle much
of anything from engine builds to painting.  His latest project is a '62 Notchback that is being meticulously striped on a large rotisserie in the four car garage http://dkpcarclub.com/blog/members-project-updates/scotts-1962-notchback-project/.  What I had initially come to see though, was an engine build he was getting started on for another club member's Karmann Ghia build.  Lets see, which heads should I use.....

No, those heads get farmed out to Jeff Denham  http://www.4inbore.com/

That fourth garage used to be filled with a bitchin' train layout a couple of years ago.  I think Scott has the market cornered on old Tinker Toy sets
and Darrell Vittone on Erector Sets... amazing!

I'm bored ... here's an east-coast outing from a few years back. So the morning starts at a pal's shop.

Stop for coffee.

Arrive on site. This is a small show put on by a local club, and we love invading it loudly.

Fun day out. I have a few more recent ones if I ever upload the pics to a host sometime.

Not a bad showing for Pennsylvania, right?   :o

Thanks Tom. That's Agave Green, '56–'58 factory color. The wheels are the re-pop Ansens from Flat-4 a few years back. It's one of my favorite cars ... oozes cool and gets driven hard.

Moving right along here.... Took a ride over to club brother Allen Weiss' house this morning to watch him assist Scott on a balancing and blueprinting lesson.  Allen used to be a machinist and can actually still read a micrometer :o!  I noticed that his race motor was strewn over the work bench and managed to snap a couple of spy shots of the important stuff before being ushered out of the garage... ;)  Allen's motor is a
stout 86 x 96.9 fuel injected monster... the top piston is a 94mm from Scott's build for size comparison.  The rods are Carrillo and the cam a
top secret grind from Shawn Geers Racing.  The last shot is Scott's build after all the balancing and blueprinting was finally finished....  ::);D  Time

Hahaha... I figured you'd like that! :)

A pic of our old '69 near Donner Pass back in the mid '70's.  I was working for Sierra Porsche-Audi
back then and remember seeing the new '74 Carreras with black trim.  VW had a number of special edition
models (Sun Bug, Jeans Bug, etc) that came with black trim, sooo....  The wheels were "take-offs" from
a new 914 that the parts manager set me up with.  There were also a full set of Koni shocks and front &
rear Sway-A-Way sway bars; nice on twisty roads!

We've had three bugs over the years; '63, '67 and '69.  In the old days, a swing axle car made the best drag racer as it was lighter and had a
shorter ring and pinion then the '69 and later models (4:37or 4:12, to a 3:88).  Late models made great drivers and responded well to suspension
modifications.  We bought our '69 from Don Burns VW in Garden Grove when I got out of the service and owned it until December of '92 when
two drunks piled into the back of it one night in front of the house in a dually.  We drove the wheels off it! :)  Here's a couple of out and abouts...

Heard from Darrell Vittone who recently purchased a Scwimmwagen (Type 166) while vacationing in Europe
last Summer.  Certainly a real man's restoration project as spare parts are extremely rare and very expensive.
This one looks to be in damn good shape... DV says it's going in the water, too!  The Inch Pincher will make

Today's post is Out and About in the garage....  I've been noticing a hard-to-push gas pedal the last few times out in my rig
so decided to do some investigating.  Weber 48IDA's have a small roller under the float-bowl the operates the accelerator pump
and mine were badly grooved from contacting the equally worn operating cam they ride against... not good and something best
left to someone who knows what's going on.  Soooo, I got the carbs off and took them over to Gene Berg's shop for the fix... it
also gave me a chance to finally change the spark plugs easily after fifteen years ::) ;)

Caught you working on your car! I took mine out last week for a much needed freshen up. Been together 22 yrs. Ran mid 12's all day long.

  >:(:( We REALLY need some pics here... ;)  Glad to hear your finally getting around to freshening up your engine.  Are you staying
the same or changing your combo?  When I got to where I couldn't easily mash the throttle, I knew it was time to see Mark Voeghtly.

I am going to get it apart & see what I have.  It will likely have the compression raised a bit  & try a few other things once it gets back on the dyno.

Sounds like that was a fun bug! Stories like that make you wish you could keep them all.

I've been down that hill in the last pic.
