Bug-In #43!
« on: June 08, 2018, 05:09:18 PM »
Sorry to say, I'm almost a week late with a report here, BUT....  I won't bore you with excuses other then I managed to DELETE all the pictures I shot!  GONE!! >:(
Gone off the computer never to be shared.  I could still see pics on the computer but there were no supporting files.  After stewing for three days, I finally manned
up and called the Apple Store and got a young man on the phone that was able to solve my "little" problem in a matter of minutes.  UNBELIEVABLE but TRUE!!

As for Bug-In 43 at Fontana Speedway last Sunday, what a fun weekend!  My VW pal Mikey flew out from Hershey, PA Thursday to get the weekend rolling and stayed
a night with us before moving on but not before the two of us visited Dave Galassi's shop Friday where we met up with Dale Snoke, Dave Rosique, and Jim Ratto.  DaveG
took us all to lunch at LaTolteca's Mexican in Azusa (in business since 1948 at the same location)... car guys having lunch and BEERS together :)  The gates opened at
4pm Saturday for overnight camping or was that madness??  By the time Sunday morning finally rolled around, the campers were bleary-eyed. Those of us that drove
in were ready for a beer of three...  good times for sure! 8)

:)  Dave Rosique's BUS... the proper way to camp!  Club members Scott Bakken's brown car and Steve Beecher's BMW on the trailer (has 3200 cc air cooled monster under
the hood)  Dale Snoke with Pete (DaveG's son) on bikes.  Dale races a gasser Comet that's laid a fair amount of rubber out front of DaveG's shop :o

Great pictures.  Makes me want to go look for my 61 Bus I had in the S.A.V.A. in 1969 !

Again - great pics Red !  Thanks.  I like the style that is popular nowadays with the VW crowd - original paint colors, simple exterior with not a bunch of excess trim, low stance, and loads of horsepower!

If it were still "alive" it probably would have been at this show! ;)  S.A.V.A. = Santa Ana Volkswagen Association, right??

Dave Perkins, in my opinion has got most folks covered on the track. The crew at Pauter Machine turns out some FAST cars!  There was a VW Gasser Reunion at this show, too.
Russell Richie lives in Scotland and owns a warehouse FULL of old VW racecars and Cal Lookers.  He has also recreated a number of old race cars and brought some of them over
to the show... true dedication!  The Pepto squareback is a recreation Russell did of Bill Schwimmer's original back in the '80's... Russell's in the driver's seat in the last pic.
