Car magazine articles 1949-present
« on: January 26, 2018, 05:47:07 PM »
I am going to start scanning some articles from my car magazines.  I have Hot Rod, R&C, Popular Hot Rodding, Car Craft, and several of the other little mags - Rod & Custom Builder, Custom Rodder, etc., dating from 1949-present.  I don't have any complete collections but there's a lot of material.

What I'm wanting to know is this - is there any particular era, car, or topic, etc., which you would like to see?   Since there's so much I need a little bit of direction, otherwise you're gonna get what you're gonna get....

Thanks in advance!

Another idea that I had was, while viewing the magazines, to identify when some parts were first seen on hot rods.  '59 Buick front drum brakes as an example.  I've already found use of them in a magazine from 1963.

And thanks Davy for the input.  Any other ideas?

Here's one of the more interesting samples from my pile of magazines.  I bought this off of eBay a few years ago for cheap, probably because it is a bound book.   Dr. J.F. Menges apparently was a very organized, formal man, having had his Hot Rod magazines bound into books like this.  It contains the issues from May 1952-September 1953, all in great shape except for an occasional ad that had been clipped out ever so neatly.  There are no address labels or post office markings on the covers.  Apparently Dr Menges went to the store each month to buy the latest.

But I didn't buy it because the honorable Dr. Menges had them bound; I bought them for the information.  While poring thru these, I came up a few ideas for some new threads, and obviously some great pics that somehow hadn't been scanned and broadcast over the internet ad nauseum.  Stay tuned !

To the guys from the Bay Area, the local history is sooooooooooooo important!   There is an abundance of the stuff from Los Angeles, but being from the Peninsula, each and every car that came out of there from 46 through the late 60's hits HOME!

The original article on Max Balchowskys '32. Lots of pics of the car and Ted floating around, but I have never seen the article posted. I know most of us need reading glasses, so these get big if you click on them.

I just found this rooting through some little pages, its too short to start a thread around, so I thought I'd add it here. Lots of talk about the Barris fire around the internet, so I thought it was kind of cool finding the original R&C write-up from when it happened.

Does anyone have September 1967 Car Craft? Can you scan and post the installment on their T-bucket build? It has the stuff on mounting the Corvair steering box, and I want to see what they did.
