Along those lines... Why is it that with our crumbling infrastructure  (bad roads with all the pot holes)  everyone is going to tires with NO sidewalls ? Now not only do you blow a tire when you hit a pot hole you bend your rim  !  Bring back the sidewall... put some meat under your ride!  JUST a thought. If your not going to fix the roads at least give us our tires back. LOL

I hear that the thin sidewalls were developed (among other reasons) in order to get a harder tire, which gave the manufacturers higher gas mileage in order to meet the federal specs.  The big SUVs got bad mileage, so the lower sedans etc. were give the narrow sidewalls to drive the mileage way up, so that the corporate average was higher.  We just bought a 2017 crew cab with 20" wheels and low profile tires off of the lot at Chevy.  I can tell you, with all of the wiz-bang suspension, that I can tell heads or tale on a dime when I roll over it.  Tough!
