BFG Radial T/A's? SERIOUSLY??!! Around here T/A's meant you were a "mark". ::) The street tire of choice in the greater Vancouver area was always McCrearys. Either that, or slicks, If you would have showed up around here on T/A's at anywhere around here other than Pitt Poulder, you were a "duck". Great story though, about two legendary cars. But T/A's?? REALLY??!! :o

Come to think of it, I guess that why they were talking about going from a roll, that would make the shit tires less of a disadvantage. That was kind of looked down on around here, asking to go from a roll was kind of looked at as an excuse. It just plain never happened at the serious venues like Latimore or Viking Way, you would have been laughed out of the place. It was mostly done between friends as an accommodation to a buddy who didn't have enough gear, and it was something that usually happened more in a "light to light" scenario.
If you pulled a guy from a roll, but he would beat you to the end of the 1/4 from a standing start, you wouldn't really have bragging rights, it wasn't really considered a 'win" unless you could beat a guy from a standing start. Regional differences I guess, but around here, that's the way it was. Realistically, even down at the Poulder, if it was "race night", most of the "hitters" were on slicks, at least well into the eighties. In later years, it was either Hoosier Quick Times, McCrearys or M/T Sportsmans if it was a real driver, or M/T ET streets on a serious car.

I mentioned Tom Postumas fake T-bolt on another thread, found a pic, this car was occasionally street driven , 427 hi-riser with a home built sheet metal tunnel ram and a jerico, eventually was knocking on the door of the nines on 10.5" ET Streets.
