Yes he’s doing the headers, It went to Ron’s for a little freshen up and turned into a complete turnkey project, it really was time for that.

You can buy the cones, even in 16 gauge from www.coneeng.com or (800) 795-5535. They are located in So. Cal. and have a ton of different sizes, prices aren't bad either. Had a guy tell me that you can't roll a cone in anything thicker than 18 ga..... looks like he was wrong.

after a long absence due to the economy and family matters I finally got back on the "replica" Victoria. Since I haven't fired this engine in a year or so I figured I had better get the headers built so I can run it. I was going to have a local guy build them but he figured his work was gold so I'm doing myself. I've done exhaust work before but never a set of headers, the width of this 507" Cad makes production headers like Sandersons stick out too far necessitating no hood or a HUGE bulge in a nice Rootlieb hood. I think by careful design and measuring I can get away with a small one.

I'm building (trying is a better word) a set of 4 into 2, 1 7/8" 16 ga. mandrel bent mild steel headers that transistion into a 2"x 2.5" SS merge collector. Performance isn't really an issue here as this engine is basically a diesel, dyno'd 466 hp @ 5,000 rpm and 535 lbs. ft. torque @ 4300 rpm. This is with a pump gas friendly 8.7:1 compression, I could have really got some ponies if I built it to 10:1 but I just don't need it nor the problem of running high octane gas.

I'll start off with just the pics I have of how the headers are fab'd to clear the r&p steering shaft, as you can see, the 2 middle tubes drop down and curve toward the block then drop down again. Then they will transition into 2 seperate 2" 90 deg. bends stacked on top of each other to wards the merge collector which will sit as it shows for clearance purposes. The 2 outside tubes will transition into the center tubes and that will take some time measuring, grinding and fitting. I'm not sure just how I'm going to do that.....yet. The one pic shows the distance between the tube and the Flaming River shock absorber type coupler, there's about 1.5" of clearance, the headers will be ceramic coated so hopefully the heat won't be too big of a problem.

Of course when you're doing something for the first time you do make mistakes, I ruined a couple of mandrel bends and ran out of material so I just put in an order for 8 more bends and some 2.5" straight tubing for the exhaust system. I will get back on it when the big brown truck shows up. Anyway so far so good I hope, I really like fabbing parts so hopefully I will be happy with the outcome. Here's some pics so far and I will update as progress continues .......... Dave

Don't pay any attention to the picture date, every pic I take has ther same date. I worked on the back cyl. tube tonight but screwed it up. Here's another picture.

Might be the camera angle but it looks to me as if you might be on course for an unmolested hood side, which is nice:)

Cut and fit ...... grind and fit ..... measure over and over, DAMN it!!!!! too much grinding, screwed that one up. Anywho, after a bunch of hours I finally got the drivers side pretty much squared away for now. They really don't look too bad, function is the main thing, I had to be careful fitting the tubes due to the heat issue on the column and specially careful to leave room to get the header bolts in and out. As I figured though, the front tube is almost touching the hoodline, these bends have a 3" radius but I found some with a 2.5" radius which would give me a little more room. Ordered 2 of them this morning and waiting on the other 90's to complete the transition to the 2 into 1 collector. The pass. side parts and exhaust tubing should be here in a couple of days ............ film at 11, Dave
