1959 250 GT PF

I did a body restoration on a '59 250 PF back in the early 80's. The owner ran out of money and pulled the car just before final paint. I was heart-broken - the only Ferrari I ever worked on.. The car eventually got finished and went on to win a number of awards. The owner finally made his lifetime trip to the Ferrari factory in Italy a few years back. Had a heart attack on the plane back to the states - realized his dream but didn't live to tel the talel. Maybe we all end up the same.

I'm a huge fan of the 250 GTO's and the like through the 60's. I do remember that the PF body was not what I would call a coach built beauty. The nicest panel on the car was the aluminum hood. The fiberglass deck lid was full of bubble voids after stripping and the steel body contours were literally finished with a heavy coat of early filler. I was disappointed.

every real car guy has a 250 story, pretty sure 29bowtie has heard mine. When I was 10 my dad took us to West Van for a family outing, we had no idea exactly what it was, but we knew we were going to see a car. So we drive out to Vancouver, cross the Lions Gate bridge (and I saw a red Charger Daytona with Ansen Sprints on the bridge), and we go to this small car dealer with some mildy exotic cars in the showroom, but nothing special. Finally the owner comes out, and escorts us to the closed in basement parking. I clearly remember the low ceiling and florescent lights, and theres this swoopy shape under a dark blue car cover. The owner peels the car cover back, and theres this STUNNING blue grey Lusso, with the fluorescent lights dancing off all those sensuous curves! I am 56 yrs old now, and the memory of seeing that car unveiled under those lights in a basement garage is as clear today as it was the day after it happened. I had seen plenty of Ferraris' before and after, but watching the car cover peel back under those florescent lights was something else!

I also really like single headlight GTE's. If I could have a Ferrari, this would probably be my pick, putting monetary value to the side. A "real" Ferrari (Columbo V-12, borranis) for the family.

The 250 GTE as shown has long been my very favorite Ferrari, because back about 20 years ago, they were the least desirable, and there was hope!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I fell hard for them very early on, with the white one in R&T. They really are a very elegant car. I would love to have one to take my wife and daughter to Deuce Days in, not gonna happen. :'(

It was designed to celebrate Ferrari's 40th anniversary and was the last Ferrari personally approved by Enzo Ferrari. When the F-40 came out they were race cars with plates on them.
