Quotes from Dan...

The early pioneers of drag racing were seldom engineers or chemists. They were young kids; building jalopies and rails in their back yards and single-car garages, trying to find a way to travel the 1320 faster. Trial and error was the rule of the day.

There is one tale of a guy with a top fueler in the early 60’s who was super pleased that; after a rather “eventful” pass, pulled a plug from his Hemi, and was delighted that it was so clean.

He called a friend over to see how nice the plug was. The friend looked down into the hole where the plug had been, and he could see the ground! The whole bottom of the engine had been blown out.

“Never mind that!”, he said. “This plug is mint!”

…and so the learning continued, from humble beginnings.

Thanks for reading.

This is the same car that I refer to as the "Vern Scholz" car in another thread. Vern is the guy who found and restored the Outcast, he is from Edmonton. I actually followed the restoration about 10-15 years ago, via email.

couple pics of the car as it originally appeared when it arrived in Kelowna, still in the Pacemakers paint

This is the paint it was in in the seventies, most of its life in BC, and still partially on it when Vern found it

A couple in progress pics. Vern really went all out when he restored this car
