Here's couple!

The Nitro Madness fuel altered just won Bakersfield earlier this month. Scott Gaulter (second from right) is the builder/owner and has a hand in everything on the car. Scott built the chassis, engine and tunes and funds the car. His earlier efforts were alcohol with a low percentage of nitro, but eventually his wife lifted the nitro ban and permitted Scott to "run the can." The long tow from Iowa paid off this year with the AA/FA win at Bakersfield's hallowed ground with Roger "Radar" Lechtenberg in the seat. Scott runs a print shop and publishes Nitro Madness, a free magazine. The win couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.
I know the basement floor is down there because it's holding everything up. I just can't see it anymore.

Fordors, that is very similar to the car I'll be crewing on this year( back a couple of pages on this thread) . Car has an alcohol set-up in it now but a new nitro engine is being pieced together right now. I can't wait. :)

Thanks 29bowtie, I didn't know that guy had a website, lots of stuff in his archive. I've seen a few of his cars around and they all have a distinctive style, he likes 12 spoke spindle mounts or 'cycle spokes on the front and always wild induction systems.

Quotes from Dan...

The early pioneers of drag racing were seldom engineers or chemists. They were young kids; building jalopies and rails in their back yards and single-car garages, trying to find a way to travel the 1320 faster. Trial and error was the rule of the day.

There is one tale of a guy with a top fueler in the early 60’s who was super pleased that; after a rather “eventful” pass, pulled a plug from his Hemi, and was delighted that it was so clean.

He called a friend over to see how nice the plug was. The friend looked down into the hole where the plug had been, and he could see the ground! The whole bottom of the engine had been blown out.

“Never mind that!”, he said. “This plug is mint!”

…and so the learning continued, from humble beginnings.

Thanks for reading.
