Very sad to see the demise of Lola in recent years. First car I crewed on, while still in high school, was a T-360 Formula Atlantic. Here's a similar one.

To meet the requirements of prototype sports car, the FIA required things like working horns and windshields, with wipers. Jim Hall installed a windshield, which looks like it was borrowed from someone's powerboat. Yes, there is a wiper... A completely useless wiper, but there it is, Mr. Inspector. The side window frames were screwed to door. Initially passing tech inspection, officials later found an issue with the side window installation. Dave Friedman photo.

For the 1967 European season, Hall built the 2F, Like the 2E, the radiators were moved to the sides and the large wing dominated its appearance. Here it is shown flying at Nurburgring (1000km). The 2F had qualified on the pole, 8 seconds faster than the Surtees/Hobbs Lola coupe. It set fastest lap, and was running away from the field, when the transmission failed. Heat was the killer of the automatic gearbox.

As was commonplace during the 1967 season, the Chaparral 2F had smashed the existing track record at several circuits, including Nürburgring. Mike Spence is at the wheel. At speed, the 2F looks stunning. Photographers were commonly found at the edge of the road in those days. Today, safety and insurance rules will not allow this proximity to the cars. Karl Ludvigsen photo, one of his best.

Yea, $400 US for the pair, around $480 CDN + shipping, geez, that's downright reasonable! :o ;D Must be the Scotsman in me coming to the fore! ;D I did a quick google search, found the foam and formable stainless mesh to make them for around $40 total, I always have leftover 6061 laying around to make bases, I will fab my own! and it wont have any ugly white lettering on them either! Screw you, elistist british upper crust road-racy dudes! ;D

Henry Ford II and wife Christina, with Ford’s son, Edsel, in tow. Christina reportedly bet $1,000 that Ferrari would win the 1967 Le Mans race. Her flippant reply to questions about the bet was, ‘After all, I am Italian.’

I think this is actually a 4 cylinder 912, 911's ran C/P with the 240Z's, and a good one could give a B/P Corvette a lot of grief.

There was a guy named Charlie Godeke that ran a 911S at Westwood in the late sixties/early seventies that was VERY fast, a couple years ago, he was inducted into the GVMPS society, during his induction he mentioned that he actually had clandestine factory backing, and his motors were coming straight from Stuttgart in a crate!
One time I was standing on the outside of the second bend of the esses at Westwood, Charlie had been really going at it with George Stearns for the lead in a Production class heat for a couple laps, and overcooked it exiting the first bend of the esses and slid off backwards in a huge shower of gravel right in front of me. Stearns went on to first overall, he won a LOT.

I have a soft spot for these late sixties 2002's, always liked their looks, and they were very competitive race cars.

Lotus 11.I really like these mid-fifties small cc sports racing cars, its hard to believe just how tiny a Lotus 11 or Lola Mk1 is till you stand beside one.

Fiat Abarths. I was talking about these on another thread. The "Monty Python" of vintage road race cars. Pretty competitive in their classes at the time too.

If you were around the Road-Race scene in the sixties, the Lotus 23B was an icon, and regularly punched way above its weight. One of the greatest race cars of all time, and the best of Colin Chapmans cars, IMO. These cars gave the Cobras and Cheetahs fits, even with the little 1.6L Cosworth. Local legend Bob McLean, really tore 'em up in one of these, I witnessed him lap the field in a Pacific Players race one year, against V8 powered USRRC cars. He was later killed testing in a Shelby team GT-40. :'(

Elva BMW, I think?

I have another envelope of pics from these events somewhere, but I have to find them.

If you keep this up I'll need to make a board for sports cars !  I had a '61 A-H Sprite, '70 Midget, and a '73 MGB at one time, but only the Sprite was modified (cut front coils, 1275cc, later trans, front discs, no bumpers).

The other envelope has some pics of the black Bobsy beside the Elva in the pic above, and some pics of a McKee, including close ups of the transaxle, which was an interesting piece.

My first engine was a Datsun 1200 (Austin copy) that I hopped up with a BIG cam and Weber side draft card. Buzzed that thing 8000 rpm on a regular basis for a few years, which it lived through well! I was always proud of that. :)

Found some more of the photos. If you were part of the sixties road race scene, you will have seen Bobsys race and win many times. Great little sports racers built by Jerry Mong of Ohio, generally ran motors in the 1000-1600 cc range in C or D Sports Racer, or F or G Modified, very successful and good looking classic sixties mid-engine Sports Racing car.
